乐Older adult centers, meals and senior services
New Yorkers 60+ can eat and join activities at older adult centers for free, with meals that fit the community's culture. Those who can't get out can get home-delivered meals. Start with one call to Aging Connect.

Who can apply
- NYC residents 60+
- Home-delivered meals: 60+ and homebound, after an assessment
How to apply, step by step
- Step 1Start with Aging Connect: call 212-AGING-NY (212-244-6469). When connected, say "Chinese, please" and wait for the interpreter.
- Step 2Tell them what you need, for example: "I want an older adult center near me with Chinese meals" or "I have trouble going out and want home-delivered meals."
- Step 3To find a center: you can also go to the NYC Aging website, click "Find a center near you" and enter your address.
- Step 4Visit a center: it's free for people 60+. On your first visit ask the staff: When are meals? Do I need to register? What activities are there (tai chi, chair exercise, computer classes, day trips and more)? Schedules and services differ by center.
- Step 5For home-delivered meals: call Aging Connect or contact the case-management agency for your neighborhood for a phone intake.
- Step 6A case manager will then visit your home to check eligibility and arrange services. Have your ID, address and health information ready.
- Step 7Case managers can also help you apply for benefits, connect you to community resources and arrange a Friendly Visiting volunteer.
After you apply
- Meals: after the home visit, the case manager decides if you qualify and arranges the meals.
- Cost: case managers don't charge. For some services you may be asked for a fee or a suggested contribution based on income; ask your case manager.
- Home care: NYC Aging-funded home care covers personal care (bathing, dressing) and housekeeping (laundry, shopping); people on Medicaid can't use it and should use Medicaid home care instead.
- If things change (for example your health gets worse and you need more help), call Aging Connect or your case manager again.
Tips
- Older adult centers are a great place to make friends and learn, not just eat. Bring a friend.
- Keep a pen and paper by the phone; write down the staff member's name, the date and the next step.
- Older adult centers are free and open to all New Yorkers 60+; don't stay away because you don't speak English.
- Family who live far away can call Aging Connect for you, and the case manager can then contact you directly.
