After you apply
- If more documents are needed, Lifeline will contact you and explain how to send them.
- After approval, pick a company: contact a participating phone or internet company; they enroll you and your monthly bill goes down.
- Recertify every year: you have 60 days after the notice. If you don't respond you lose the discount, and your bill may rise or service may stop. Recertify at lifelinesupport.org/recertify.
- If you move or no longer qualify, tell your company within 30 days.
Tips
- If your service is free, use it at least once every 30 days (call, text or go online).
- Lifeline rules may change under a federal proposal; check "What changed recently" first.
- A household is people who live together and share income and expenses; people who live together but keep money separate may count as different households.
