Who can apply
- NYC residents age 10+
- Immigration status doesn't matter
How to apply, step by step
- Step 1Check your documents: IDNYC uses points. You need 3 points for identity and 1 point for address. Use the Document Calculator on the IDNYC site to see if yours are enough.
- Step 2Get the application: print it from the IDNYC site or pick one up at a center.
- Step 3Book an appointment: use the IDNYC online portal, or call 311, say "IDNYC", then "Chinese, please" for an interpreter. Every Friday new slots open for the next Monday–Friday.
- Step 4Book only one appointment per person.
- Step 5No appointment? Some centers take walk-ins on set days, first come, first served; go early.
- Step 6Bring originals to the center: IDNYC doesn't accept mail applications. Staff check your papers, give them back right away, and take your photo.
- Step 7Children 10–13: come with a caretaker. The child brings 2 points of identity (with birth date); the caretaker brings 3 points of their own ID (including photo ID) plus proof of their relationship, and signs the form.

- Identity: passport, foreign ID, consular ID, etc.
